Scarborough Borough Council Leader, Cllr Tom Fox, said: “I’m delighted the council is able to bring such fantastic acts to the Open Air Theatre in 2012. It’s a wonderful setting for outdoor entertainment and Scarborough people – as well as the hundreds of thousands who visit the resort every summer –deserve to be able see acts of this calibre on their doorstep, in their town...

“We have been working tremendously hard behind the scenes to secure these stars and I’m delighted with what we’ve now been able to announce.”

Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “This is fantastic news as one of the top seaside resorts in the UK has secured some of the top acts around for what we’re sure will be another busy year for tourism in Scarborough and the county. “Big name acts and live music play a key role in attracting visitors to Scarborough and Yorkshire – helping to further boost the county’s tourism economy. Festivals account for 10% of total visits to Yorkshire and are collectively worth around £500 million to the county – so announcements of acts like these can only be a good thing.”
