William Wordsworth...
Gallows Hill is steeped in history. In the 19th century, the farm’s tenants were the Hutchinson family. On 4th October 1802, their sister Mary left here with her fiancé William Wordsworth for their wedding at All Saints Church in Brompton-by-Sawdon. After a fire in the 1930s, Gallows Hill was extended in 1942. It continued to be let as a farm, before becoming a private home with a café and shop in the early 2000s. It evolved into a B&B and bunkhouse, coming under new management in 2024.

Looking for affordable large group accommodation in rural north Yorkshire? Our traditional converted barn is perfect for groups of friends or extended families of up to 20 people. The two storey, two staircase detached stone-built bunkhouse includes a dining area and kitchen. It’s centrally heated with carpeting in the sleeping areas. For cycling groups, safe storage is available.

Brompton-by-Sawdon is known as the birthplace of aviation, thanks to its famous resident Sir George Cayley. It's a delightful historic village with a beautiful stream and mill pond. The village is the perfect base from which to enjoy Scarborough, the Yorkshire Coast, North York Moors, Vale of Pickering and Yorkshire Wolds. It's also close to attractions including North Yorkshire Waterpark, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway & Dalby Forest. There are endless walking routes in the area too.
